Disturbia is about a late teens life who turns upside down within a short amount of time. Kale Brecht, a 17 year old boy went fishing with his father. However, this activity showed us that Kale was short tempered yet cheeky. Their relationship was strong and full of love. When suddenly, routing back from their trip they got into a major car accident and sadly Kale's dad passes away.
A year later Kale became very distant away from others. He got into an incident in school which lead to 3 months of house arrest. As his spanish teacher provoked him regarding his late father, Kale punched him across the face.
Due to the house arrest, Kale used media to entertain him. For example, he played the xbox online so he could connect with his friends. Also he watched TV and was on his phone. Then came the point where he saw his fathers room still grieving. At this point we were introduced to the sad sorrowful music that played when his father died. Entering his fathers room we saw the silence which surrounded the room and pictures of Kale and his family. We can tell that Kale does not have a good relationship with his mother as his language and tone is different compared to when he spoke to his father. Also, she has cut his limits to what he's allowed to do e.g. going on iTunes and playing online on the xbox. This shows that he could talk to his dad but he cannot speak to anyone else so his feeling are trapped. He started occupying himself by making a perimeter of his limits in the front yard. This is where he met Ashley his new neighbour. Later on during the film, Kale one night spots Robert Turner parking a Mustang in his garage which matches the description of the car that took that missing girl. Kale became so shocked that the next day he invited Ronnie (his friend) to come over. As both boys were over they got distracted by he sight of Ashley swimming. As she spotted them she rang the doorbell of Kales house. When he opened the door he was very nervous and was muttering a lot. This tells us that Kale was shy and nervous around Ashley. Following on, Ashley and Ronnie stayed over at Kales house till late night. Kale gradually became normal with Ashley. Until the point they saw Robert Turner with a lady in his house. Kale seemed shocked as he saw the prop which was a knife held in Roberts Turners hand. It actually turned out to be that Robert Turner was cutting off the price tag of the woman's dress. When everybody left Kale noticed a girl screaming and he saw the same girl that was in Robert Turners house screaming for help. Kale was panicking and by that time by accident his camera flashed and he collapsed on the floor. When he slowly got up he could not see Robert anymore. Suddenly Robert Turner popped up and looked directly at Kale. The next day, Kale woke up and went downstairs to eat his breakfast. He opened the fridge to get some butter and as he closed it Robert Turner was standing right next to him behind the fridge door. This made Kale jump and he panicked when he saw Robert. Kale reacted and put the knife pointing at Turner. This represents that Kale seemed scared and trying to be defensive. Carrying on that day, Ashley told Kale about a party she was hosting and he got a little frustrated. This symbolises that Kale is trapped due to his tag and concluding that he can not go to the party. As the party is taking place, Kale looks at the party next door through his window and he spots Ashley flirting with another man which concluded that Kale became jealous and so he put on music which affected Ashley's party. As Ashley came to switch off his music, Kale confessed to her about watching her and expressing his feelings and she gladly felt the same way and so they kissed and had a romantic moment. Even though Kale is under house arrest he is still using his time wisely by mending and fixing cameras ready for more action. As Ronnie goes into Turners house at night and disappears, Kale got nervous and ran outside with a baseball bat to Turners house. The baseball bat represents Kale's protection over Turner. However, when the police arrive they assume that Kale is in the wrong and he has to go court the following day. As his mother goes to Roberts house he watches her through the binoculars which represents his distance from his mother and how vulnerable she is by herself with Mr Turner. Towards the end of the film, Kale goes to recuse his mother from Mr Turner's house and he achieves his goal by killing Robert Turner. Kale found his mother in the large big room which was filled with saws and spades. This symbolises that Robert Turner used them for a suspicious reason apart from gardening. In addition, Kale saw many wigs and ID cards of women that Robert Turner took and killed. From achieving such a dangerous mission, Kale's tag was taken off and that symbolized that he regained freedom. Due to this great news, to celebrate, Kale went to see Ashley and crossed the perimeter which shows his freedom and not being stuck with house arrest. Overall, he becomes a hero as he gets Ashley, defeats the enemy, gets revenge on the little kids and patches things up with his mother. This finally concludes to him having a happy ending. |

Meet Mrs Brecht. She is Kale's widowed mother. Sadly in the beginning of the movie Mr Brecht dies from an unexpected car accident. His death caused much grief and sorrow. Throughout most of the movie, Mrs Brecht wears dark black clothing. This shows that still not over her husbands death, Mrs Brecht wears plain dull clothes which also reflect her feeling and emotions. In addition, she wears a necklace which holds a ring which belonged to her husband. This also symbolizes that Mrs Brecht still is not going without a day thinking about her late husband.
However, when Mrs Brecht tries to get over her husbands death, she meets Mr Robert Turner and thats when her clothing changes. From the dark dull clothing, she goes to bright white and bold colours. This creates a huge impact as it shows that she is moving on from her husbands death and wants to be happy again. Also, it again reflects her emotions and now in these bold clothes she feels happy and less sad.
In the ending, Mrs Brecht gets knocked unconscious and taken into the basement by Robert Turner. Here is where Kale rescues his mother from Turners house and gets her safely into their own house where they are comforted by police.

Finally meet the last character in this film. He is the one and only evil Robert Turner. As Kale is under house arrest he seems to notice that Robert Turner is in his garden everyday mowing the lawn twice a day in a certain way. This must represents that he is tidy and organised. One night, Robert Turner drives this vintage car into his garage and this car was reported missing along with a girl. As he pulls the car in his garage, Kale is from his window viewing the sight. Now the music seems to be low and quiet which is similar to the atmosphere as it is night time and everybody is asleep. Also, as Turner was cleaning his garden he grabbed a rabbit and put it in a cage. This shows to us that Robert Turner seems to be a control freak and want his property to be as tidy as possible. As Kale and his friends set up an investigation on Robert Turner to find out if he kidnapped the girl, they one night get caught by Turner looking through his window at them. The very next day, Robert scares Kale at his house by standing behind the fridge. This causes Kale to jump and picks up a knife pointed towards Turner. Robert Turner speaks Spanish to Kale. He gets in her car and spoke to her regarding her following him. He speaks in a suttle yet intimidating way.

This hair and makeup represents that Turner knew Kale was watching him so tried to confuse him. When Kale came to the rescue he knocked Robert unconscious and he was soon arrested.
